Australia’s captain Pat Cummins, who has led his country to numerous victories, is now set to feature in a new animated kids’ cartoon series called Snick and Willow.
The series revolves around two cricket enthusiasts on a mission to spread the values of fun, friendship, and fair play through the game.
Produced by Xentrix Studios, the series follows Snick, an Indian boy, and Willow, an Australian girl who loves fast bowling, as they embark on global adventures to uncover cricket artefacts and save their local club from developers. Cummins, currently in the West Indies, stated, “Growing the game of cricket has always been incredibly important to me. What Snick and Willow is doing is really special – it’s a fun, vibrant way to bring cricket to kids everywhere.”
Cummins is particularly excited about the character of Willow and her potential to inspire young girls to fall in love with cricket.
“I’m especially excited about the role of Willow in the series, and how her journey can help inspire young girls to fall in love with cricket. This show has the potential to leave a real mark on the sport’s future,” he said.
What Is Snick and Willow?
Willow is an 11-year-old Australian girl who moved to India with her father, Johnno Evans, the coach of a local cricket team. According to her character bio on the Snick and Willow website, while adapting to a new country and culture presents challenges, Willow’s outgoing nature helps her embrace her surroundings with enthusiasm and curiosity.
Although Cummins’s role in the series has not yet been finalised, he recognises its potential. “Blending adventure, mystery, and sportsmanship, the show is designed to emote with children aged 5-12 and their families, aligning with Cricket Australia’s 2022-27 Strategic Priorities for youth engagement and diversity,” he said.
Currently, there are six main characters in the series. Besides Willow and Snick, who is the captain and a star wicketkeeper of a local club, there are PERCI (Personalized Electro Remote Communications Interface that looks like a cricket ball but transforms into an all-knowing cricket fact droid), Batin and Balu, Sir Malik, Madam Chair Sunita, coach Evans, and Ajun.
