Barcelona has opted not to activate the purchase option for Ghanaian midfielder Abdul Aziz Issah, bringing an abrupt and disappointing end to what many had hoped would be a breakthrough move into European football, according to *SPORT*.
Issah joined the Catalan club on loan from Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC in September 2024. His arrival generated excitement, particularly after he was spotted training with the senior team under Hansi-Dieter Flick. Early signs pointed to Barcelona having unearthed a raw talent with serious potential.
However, his time in Spain has fallen far short of expectations. Issah featured for only 26 minutes across two appearances with Barcelona Atletic, the club’s B team, offering only brief glimpses of the skill that had made him a standout at youth level in Ghana.
Despite Barcelona facing an injury-hit midfield throughout the season, Issah remained largely sidelined, excluded from matchday squads for months. His lack of integration and game time raised questions about the club’s development approach and its plans for the young talent.
In stark contrast, Issah excelled while representing Ghana at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, reigniting conversations around his potential. Yet even that resurgence was not enough to persuade Barcelona’s technical team to retain him.
By allowing his buyout clause to expire, the club has passed on the opportunity to sign a player widely considered to have significant long-term value.
The decision ends his European stint for now, but Issah’s strong performances on the international stage suggest his story in top-tier football is far from over.
