Barcelona's statement
Minutes before the match’s 9:00 pm WAT kickoff, the Blaugrana released a statement announcing the passing of a member of their medical staff and the postponement of their match.
“Barcelona is sorry to announce the sad news of the death of first team doctor Carles Miñarro Garcia this Saturday afternoon,” the club shared via their official channels.
“As a result, the game between FC Barcelona and CA Osasuna has been postponed until a later date.
“The FC Barcelona Board of Directors and players wish to express their utmost sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased and join them in mourning at such a difficult time.”
LALIGA’s statement
The league, via their social media accounts, also released a statement, sharing their condolences, and confirming that the game has been postponed, with the rescheduled date set to be announced soon.
“LALIGA regrets the passing of Dr. Carles Miñarro, FC Barcelona’s first-team doctor, and announces that, for this reason, today's match between @FCBarcelona and @osasuna_en has been postponed, pending the decision of the single judge of competitions.
“LALIGA would like to express its deepest condolences to his family, friends, the club, and its supporters, and shares in their sorrow. The new date and time for the match will be announced soon.”
Reports suggest that the doctor passed in the team hotel, which left the players in a state of shock, and as such, they requested the match be postponed.
With the Blaugrana no longer playing at their scheduled time, Atletico Madrid will have a chance to go above Hansi Flick's side when they play Getafe tomorrow.
