BAY CITY, MI – A look at the high school sports scene in Bay County for May 21, 2025. Regardless of the elements, the Dukes are able to perform like champions. Fighting the rain and cold and wind – and the rest of the field at the final Tri-Valley Conference Jamboree at Twin Oaks – Garber emerged with the victory and closed out its run to the league title. “Boy, in these weather conditions, the guys did just an amazing job of griding out each and every hole,” Garber coach Jake Coquillard said. “I could not be more proud of them.” RELATED: Bay County Track and Field Championship Garber came in at 296, four stroke ahead of Freeland for the title-clinching win. Five Dukes landed among the Top 8 in the field as Devin Dueweke shot 72 for third place, Jonah Williams and Aaron Theisen each carded 74 for fourth, Jax Anderson shot 76 for sixth and Lucas Schiefer notched 78 for eighth. John Glenn (341) finished in fifth place, led by Mason Hayes in ninth at 79. Logan Bitzer shot 86 while Will Stopyak and Hunter Piorkowski each carded 88 for the Bobcats. GOLF: STRONG FINISH FOR CENTRAL Bay City Central saved its best for last, and showed a glimpse of a promising future. After finishing in 10th place in the regular season league jamborees, the Wolves leaped up to sixth place in the Saginaw Valley League Championship at The Fortress with a team score of 340. A pair of freshmen keyed the move for Central as Cole Kozielski shot 82 and Kaiden DuRussel 84. Austin Wisenbach shared the team lead with 82 while Ryan Marciniak scored with 92. Bay City Western (327) placed fourth, led by a sixth-place showing by Rowan Smithgall at 79. Nash Leonard came in at 81, Logan Gehoski 83 and Chase Schmidt 84. Grand Blanc took top honors at 314. SOCCER: GLENN WINS DISTRICT OPENER John Glenn erupted out of the chute, roaring to an 11-0 victory over Flint Carman-Ainsworth in the Division 2 district opener. The Wolves knocked off Clio 7-0 in the first round of Division 2 district action, giving Central its first postseason victory in at least 22 years.
