BBC chaos as Vernon Kay late for show and Radio 2 undergoes last-minute shake up
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
BBC Radio 2 was in chaos on Tuesday morning when presenter Vernon Kay failed to turn up on time for his early morning show. Vernon usually kicks off his programme at 9.30am straight after the Breakfast Show but the host failed to arrive on time as he got stuck on a train while commuting to the London studio. It meant that Sara Cox, who was standing in for Scott Mills, extended the Breakfast Show for 30 minutes. And then after the 10am news a familiar voice appeared over the airwaves with Gary Davies being brought in to cover for Vernon. The amused radio legend told listeners: "I was supposed to be teeing off around now but it's just going to have to wait." He added that Vernon was stuck on a train and the power had gone out so the doors wouldn't open. "He's not going nowhere. And he's still trying to get here. Will he make it or not? If you spot him let me know where he is." Gary then played a voice note from Vernon who said: "Hi Gary, it's Vernon. I'm sat on a train, thanks very much for covering for me." He then asked his fellow passengers to say hello to the listeners before adding to Gary: "Have a great show." Listeners rushed to send in messages to Gary, who usually hosts Sounds of the 80s. One joked: "I can't believe you gave up golf. Vern and I are teeing of now." Another said: "Are you sure Vern's not on EuroStar making a break for it?" While a third added that Vernon should make sure he put in a bid for compensation saying: "Tell Vern to make sure he puts his delay repay claim in." Gary added: "Who knows if he will make it here before midday. We'll have to wait to find out really." Vernon then sent in an update: "Quick update... the train that's supposed to help us has an issue transferring its power to our train. It's broken." Vernon Kay's show is on BBC Radio 2 weekdays at 9.30am
