BBC EastEnders confirms Bex Fowler's return for heartbreaking storyline after five years

EastEnders have confirmed that Bex Fowler will be back in Albert Square for a brief visit. Jasmine Armfield, who's been away since her character shot off to travel the world in 2020, will be returning to London just as things have hit rock bottom with the death of her dad Martin Fowler (James Bye) during the show’s live 40th anniversary episode. With her dad Martin dead and her mum Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) recently given birth to baby Julia, there's plenty of drama ahead for the family. Bex will waltz back to Walford just in time to bid farewell to her father at his funeral. Speaking about her return, Jasmine quipped: "It's wonderful to be back at EastEnders and to see so many familiar faces. It's amazing for me to come home, but for Bex, it's an absolutely devastating time because she's lost her dad." "She's not the same Bex we waved goodbye to; our girl's morphed into a proper grown-up after her out-of-pocket adventures. She's grown up a lot, having spent the past few years travelling, so we're going to see a much more mature and grown-up version of Bex this time around." Boss Chris Clenshaw added: "We're delighted to welcome Jasmine home to EastEnders as part of Martin's farewell. There's no way that Bex would miss her dad's funeral, and Sonia needs her eldest daughter more than ever.", reports Plymouth Live . "It's been five years in which Bex has gone out into the world, so she'll come back with renewed wisdom and experience." Vicki Fowler's also making a comeback tour of the Square. The character, set to be played by actress Alice Haig, is the offspring of Michelle Fowler and Den Watts, and Martin's niece. Vicki will make her entrance with her boyfriend Ross and his son Joel, marking her first appearance in Walford in over two decades. While there are numerous character comebacks on the horizon, departures are also imminent. Natalie Cassidy has verified that she'll be leaving her role as Sonia in EastEnders permanently this year, although specifics of her exit plot remain a secret. EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday at 7.30pm on BBC One and available to stream on BBC iPlayer from 6am
