Sarah Greene and Roman Kemp are gearing up for the third season of The Finish Line. Fans of the popular BBC One show can anticipate a lot of changes this season. The second series saw an extension of the track, leading to more thrilling finishes, and now, Sarah has hinted at a new twist: the supercharged end zone. "You haven't seen anything until you've seen our supercharged end zone," Sarah Greene teases, "It nearly sets the studio on fire as people approach the finish line. Roman also answers more questions in this series than the previous two combined!" This is no small achievement. The BBC show is known for its fast pace, with contestants answering consecutive questions in seconds, leaving little room for mistakes. Roman Kemp enjoys watching players push their limits - but he confesses he takes some guilty pleasure in their errors. "You're going to see a lot of people fail this season," he reveals. "And there's a twisted part of me that quite enjoys seeing people aim for victory and not achieve it." Sarah, however, is all about rooting for the underdogs. "It's very captivating for viewers to see someone who appears a bit unsure of themselves," she shares. "They might admit to being nervous, but then they shine because the questions have gone in their favour. That's purely random." The dynamic duo is back together, and Sarah, at 66, feels completely in her element. She affectionately remarks, "He's heard me say this a hundred times over, but I do consider him my TV son," adding, "I'm there purely to look after him, and he looks after me too. He's the only one I want." Roman, 32, echoes her enthusiasm, explaining his eagerness to return to the BBC quiz show: "I would never do a show I don't enjoy," and notes, "For quiz shows, series three is a bit of a myth. So many don't even make it to that." Sarah and Roman can't get enough of filming the show because it's just so much fun, though they face the constant battle of keeping their composure. Sarah admits, "Roman has a much better poker face than I do," confessing, "You can read my face from a mile off. But I have to remind myself I'm pretending to be Richard Osman on Pointless. That's the acting skill coming in." But for them, it's not all about the win; it's the players' stories that resonate. This season, Roman was touched by a contestant who wanted to win money for his father. "He came on wanting to win money for his dad. He didn't think his dad would be around for much longer, and he wanted to take him to see a Six Nations rugby match and travel, do things only money can buy," Roman shares. He keeps us guessing on the outcome, but admits, "I won't give it away if he did it or not, but you can't help but root for someone like that." Even when contestants falter, the emphasis is on enjoyment. That's something Roman feels strongly about, given his own history with quiz shows. He's still haunted by his appearance on Million Pound Drop with his dad, pop star Martin Kemp. "I once lost my dad a million pounds on Million Pound Drop," he admits, "This was peak Twitter, I got killed and I felt so stupid." That experience shaped his approach to hosting. "From the moment this show was launched, I wanted to make sure that no one ever left feeling like that," he says. "The most important thing for me is that people have fun." Season three of The Finish Line is bringing a perfect blend of touching tales, hilarious escapades, and intense rivalry, claiming its spot as the show's most thrilling instalment yet. If you're feeling brave enough to throw your hat into the ring, Sarah's message is clear: "It's time to put your money - or your travel vouchers - where your mouth is and give it a go!".
