UPDATE: 4:05 p.m. The BC Wildfire Service has joined the fight to contain a wildfire behind Kelowna International Airport in the Ellison area. A witness watching from a distance said she could see a helicopter over the blaze burning on a hillside with houses close by. Several fire department have responded to the scene. UPDATE: 3:48 p.m. Photos from nearby show the fire on the hill behind the Kelowna airport is spreading. The BC Wildfire Service is now responding. It lists the fire as out of control. The cause is under investigation. Firefighters are on the scene of a wildfire behind Kelowna International Airport. Melanie Walsh shared photos she took as she was driving near the airport. She said she could see “trees candling”. Walsh said that she has friends who live in the area of the fire who are already packing up to leave, in case they are forced to flee the flames. - more to come
