BCCI Sacks Team Masseur Besides Abhishek Nayar, T Dilip & Soham Desai: Report
@Source: news18.com
In what has come as a major revelation, an Indian team masseur has also been sacked by BCCI ahead of the upcoming season, besides batting coach Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai, according to a report in IANS. Nayar had come on board as the Indian side’s assistant coach in July 2024 after leaving the Kolkata Knight Riders, while Dilip and Desai have been a part of the setup from November 2021 and October 2020. The name of the masseur is yet to be known. Arun Kanade is one of the masseurs and was a part of the team’s Champions Trophy-winning support staff. “Some people on the Board had been saying what’s the point of having so many people in the men’s team support staff, especially after the debacle of the Test series defeat in Australia? ‘” a source told IANS on Thursday. “They had this view that with so many coaches there, the support staff of the men’s team gave a crowded look. So, this can’t be called sacking, it’s just about giving the support staff a lean look,” the source added. Several batters in the Indian side, including KL Rahul, had credited Nayar for the mindset shift to achieve success in white-ball cricket. If reports are to be believed, Nayar has already been informed of BCCI’s decision to part ways with him. The same positive response had come for Dilip, who had bagged immense popularity for finding innovative ways of awarding the fielding medals during tournaments as well as bilateral series. But he has to let go of his position, having completed three years in the position. The report says that the masseur has been with the Indian team for just two years. In place of Desai, the name of Adrian le Roux has emerged as his replacement, the report adds. Le Roux, the strength and conditioning coach of Indian Premier League team Punjab Kings, after having a stint with Kolkata from 2008 to 2019, had been with the Indian side from 2002 to 2003 in the same capacity.
