To be sure, Elizabeth Hurley hasn’t had the most conventional love life, most famously staying with Hugh Grant for several years after he was arrested for “lewd conduct” with a Beverly Hills sex worker in the mid-1990s. In addition, the 59-year-old model, actor and Maxim magazine’s 2024 “sexiest woman in the world” has had romances with two multimillionaires and an Australian cricket player and recently did a sex scene in a movie directed by her 23-year-old son. But Hurley’s escapades sound sane compared to the recent “trainwreck” personal and professional life of her apparent new boyfriend, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. Hurley and Cyrus, 63, stunned the celebrity world Sunday by posting a photo of themselves going in for a kiss in some picturesque country setting. In the photo, she dons a cowboy hat, while the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer wears Easter Sunday bunny ears, along with the tattoos covering one arm and his now-signature scraggly long hair. “Happy Easter,” Hurley captioned the photo, with a heart emoji. So, if Hurley and Cyrus aren’t trolling people with a belated April Fool’s joke, and are genuinely dating, people are wondering what’s going on with her. Yes, she might not be A-list, but she’s known for her red-carpet glamor and for being an occasional force of nature who could probably be dating billionaires. “Wait … what?” wrote “Little House on the Prairie” actor Melissa Gilbert in a comment on Cyrus’ Instagram post. “Damn, did all the other single men on earth die or what?” someone else said. “Nooo!! Just nooo! Run Elizabeth,” said another. Yes, as these people are asking, what is Hurley thinking and what could possibly make Cyrus appealing? Besides his unwashed look, Cyrus has become embroiled in various scandals in recent years and is supposedly struggling to get work, according to the Daily Mail. Among his scandals, he recently faced two messy, “explosive divorces,” from first wife Tish Cyrus and second wife Firerose. He also is reportedly still feuding with daughter Miley Cyrus and is said to be estranged from the rest of his five other kids, the Daily Mail said. Then, there’s the fact that Cyrus performed at one of Donald Trump’s inaugural balls — an automatic turn-off for half of America. And, his Liberty Ball performance was so “disastrous” and so plagued by “embarrassing” technical difficulties that it revealed he was apparently trying to lip-synch his way through his set, the Daily Mail also reported at the time. Cyrus’s disheveled appearance, moreover, was alarming enough that his son, Trace Cyrus, went public on social media with his concerns about his father’s well-being, the Daily Mail also reported. Trace Cyrus’ post sounded like an intervention, suggesting concerns that his father might be abusing alcohol or other substances. “We are all hanging on to memories of the man we once knew & hoping for the day he returns,” Trace Cyrus wrote. “You’re not healthy Dad & everyone is noticing it.” The Daily Mail subsequently reported on Billy Ray Cyrus’ “tragic downfall” from successful musician and devoted family man to an entertainer left doing Trump events and a father “who has practically no relationship with own children.” A source asserted that Cyrus’ downfall is due to his ongoing “bitterness” over daughter Miley Cyrus “outshining” him. The source alleged that Cyrus “groomed” Miley to be a teen Disney Channel and pop music star in the 2000s so that she would be the family’s “cash cow.” He knew his own country music stardom was “fading,” the source said. But once she became the famous Cyrus, he “couldn’t bear it,” according to the Daily Mail. The source also told the Daily Mail that his marriage to Miley’s mother Tish was plagued by his “intense bouts of drinking and alleged drug abuse,” adding that when they split in 2022 after 30 years of marriage, it completely divided the Cyrus family. Things got worse for Cyrus when he began dating Firerose, a little-known singer 27 years his junior, whom he first met on the set of his daughter’s “Hannah Montana” show. They married in 2023, but the relationship was tumultuous and led to another another messy divorce in 2024. In legal documents, Cyrus claimed Firerose was after his money and accused her of “physical, emotional and verbal abuse,” the Daily Mail reported. In turn, she accused him of “verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse” and alleged he engaged in “persistent drug use accompanied with the consumption of marijuana.” Both denied the other’s claims and they settled their divorce in 2024. Firerose settled for $0 because she just wanted “to be done” with Cyrus and get away from the situation, a source told The Daily Mail at the time. Following his split from Firerose, Cyrus became “a recluse,” because he believed she was “the one” and he stopped trusting people, the source said. But his Easter Sunday post suggests that Cyrus might be ready to open his heart again. “Awe! Billy Ray Bunny! Happy Easter!” one person responded to his post. Hurley’s director son, Damian Hurley, showed his approval with a heart emoji. At least, this time Cyrus is choosing a woman who is more age-appropriate. But Hurley’s reasons for wanting to get cozy with Cyrus remain elusive. Another person wrote, “Is anyone else wondering why she’s not seeing the (red flag emojis)?”
