THE newly elected Manicaland Golf Union is making waves with its focus on grassroots development, particularly in promoting junior players and marginalised communities – thanks to the Zimbabwe Golf Association’s contribution.
The union’s efforts have already borne fruit, with two primary school-going players – Kelly Tigere and Tamilee Manjoro – receiving brand new golf bags courtesy of the association.
This generous contribution is a testament to the union’s commitment to nurturing young talent and promoting diversity in the sport.
Under Caleb Kunze’s presidency, the organisation aims to create a more inclusive and vibrant golfing community.
Kunze said: “I am delighted to see two talented young golfers from our region, Kelly Tigere, a Grade Two learner at Chancellor Junior School and Tamilee Manjoro, (Grade Two) at Baring Primary School, receiving new golf bags courtesy of Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) and The R&A. This gesture demonstrates the commitment of these organisations to nurturing young talent and promoting golf in our province.”
Kunze commended ZGA for its commitment to junior golf development.
“As Manicaland Golf Union president, I am proud to see our junior golfers receiving the support they need to excel. The R&A and ZGA’s efforts to develop golf in Zimbabwe are commendable, and I look forward to continued collaboration and growth,” he said.
The two youngsters who received the golf bags are part of the thriving Eve Golf Academy.
Kunze urged schools, parents, and guardians to encourage their young ones to participate in golf training and competitions.
“Kelly and Tamilee’s representation of the Eve Golf Academy is testament to the academy’s commitment to excellence and its role in shaping the next generation of golfers.
“I congratulate them on this achievement and encourage them to pursue their passion for golf. I urge other young golfers in Manicaland to take up the sport and seize available opportunities. Golf promotes leadership skills, discipline, focus, and teamwork,” he said.
