“Govind Park an Option”

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has renewed interest on Govind Park, Ba as a third venue to host their Super Rugby Pacific home matches. Drua chief executive officer (CEO) Mark Evans told SUNSports last Thursday at the Tanoa Plaza hotel, Suva during an interview. He said they have developed a good relationship with Ba Rugby Union and the Ba town council. “Ba rugby have done a really great job in the last five to six years. We have kept a close eye on Govind Park because there you have another venue which takes another nine and half thousand people,” Evans said. He added they visited the park during its construction. “We haven’t been to see the finished article yet. We have said all along that we’ll give it some consideration. “We’ll have to wait and see. We think it’s pretty good but we haven’t actually done an audit and we haven’t done been to look at the broadcast, facilities which are important.” “But of course, we’d be silly not to at least look at it. It’s big enough, it’s in another town,” Evans added. He indicated he was aware that the Drua tickets are not cheap for most Fijians which was why the home matches were split between Lautoka’s Churchill Park and the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. “I’m not saying we will, I’m just saying we might and we got the women’s game to think about as well,” Evans said. “One or two of them might be a stand- alone game next year, we don’t know yet. We got trial games, and we do try to take trial games around the place a little bit.” “As far as Govind Park is concerned, yeah trials, women’s game maybe a super rugby game, we’ll certainly look at it,” he added.
