Innocent Kurira, Zimpapers Sports Hub HIGHLANDERS is expected to confirm key technical changes this week, with Amini “Mr Fix It” Soma-Phiri set to be unveiled as first team manager, replacing Netsai Moyo. It marks yet another homecoming for Soma-Phiri, who has served the club in various roles for decades. A source close to the developments said the reshuffle is already sealed and the announcement is imminent. “Amini Soma-Phiri is the new team manager while Netsai Moyo goes back to his position as Bosso 90 team manager. Soma-Phiri will be introduced to the team any day this week,” said the source. Moyo, who has been filling in for the senior side, will return to his role with Bosso 90. The club’s Executive Committee member for Technical and Development, Kindman Ndlovu, would not comment on the appointments but confirmed an official statement will follow soon. Soma-Phiri earned the nickname “Mr Fix It” during his playing days, a nod to his knack for steadying the midfield and his other career as a motor mechanic. He is valued for his reliability and leadership. A holder of a Level Four coaching certificate, Soma-Phiri started at Olympics FC in 1984 before joining Highlanders in 1985. He played until 1997, was part of the famous 1987 squad, and has since served the club as assistant coach and welfare manager. His latest return comes as Highlanders also work to finalise paperwork for the possible reappointment of Dutch coach Hendrik Pieter de Jongh. The former Bosso head coach, who led the side in 2019, has been seen at recent matches against CAPS United and Ngezi Platinum, fuelling speculation about his comeback. The club hopes that bringing in Soma-Phiri and De Jongh will lift a campaign that has stumbled in recent weeks. Bosso has just one win in their last seven games, a 1-0 result over GreenFuel, alongside defeats to CAPS United, Scottland and MWOS, and draws with Triangle, Ngezi Platinum and Kwekwe United. A shortage of goals has been the biggest concern. In the mid-season transfer window, Highlanders signed Nigerian striker BenjAmini Oluwarotimi Adeogun on loan from Gwanda Pirates. They also brought in midfielders Learnmore Muyambo and Martin Nhubu from Ngezi Platinum, though Nhubu’s deal is yet to be formally announced.
