WWE is reportedly showing strong interest in acquiring the services of free agent Jeff Cobb.Cobb's recent comments have ignited speculation about his future, particularly after a series of losses. Following a recent defeat, he openly stated, 'Maybe it's time to take my bags and go somewhere else,' hinting at a potential change of scenery.Cobb's journey to professional wrestling is unique. Before stepping into the squared circle, he was a decorated amateur wrestler, even representing Guam in freestyle wrestling at the 2004 Olympics. He transitioned to pro wrestling in 2009. His career has seen him compete in various promotions worldwide, including New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW), Ring of Honor (ROH), Lucha Underground (as the masked Matanza Cueto), and All Elite Wrestling (AEW).His ROH debut in 2018 led to him quickly capturing the ROH World Television Championship from Punishment Martinez (now Damian Priest). He delivered standout performances against top stars like Matt Taven, Will Ospreay, and Bandido in the promotion. In 2019, Cobb signed with NJPW and joined the United Empire faction, led by Will Ospreay. He became a fixture in the G1 Climax tournaments, delivering notable matches against talent such as Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi. He also won the NJPW Tag Team Championship alongside Great-O-Khan as part of the United Empire. In 2020, he made a surprising AEW debut, appearing as Chris Jericho's hired mercenary to face Jon Moxley.According to Fightful Select's Sean Ross Sapp, multiple sources confirm that WWE has been actively monitoring Cobb. One intriguing claim suggests that Cobb's name has even surfaced on WWE's internal roster, though Fightful has yet to independently verify this.Meanwhile, AEW sources have stated that Cobb is not expected to join their ranks. Dave Meltzer, in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, added context by reporting that while WWE has engaged in talks with Cobb, no deal has been confirmed as of yet.Cobb played up the rumors on social media. Cobb first wrote, "Geez guys relax! I just woke up and holy hell! Look at all these notifications! I guess I have some explaining to do. Well let me calm everyone's nerves..... the rumors are in fact 100% TRUE. I will be eliminating Naito from the New Japan cup LIVE TODAY! So tune in to njpwworld! #NJPW #NJPWWorld #NJCup."Cobb added with another tweet, "Ok ok ok, I made a vague post about rumors..... here's the real scoop..... I found a bad ass sandwich shop next to the goods gym in Osaka! Very tasty!"Cobb is scheduled to compete at NJPW's "Windy City Riot" in Chicago on Friday, April 11th, at the Wintrust Arena. His opponent hasn't been announced yet.More WWE News:
