The 2024 third-place winner under 57 kg-weight divisions of National Finance National Boxing Championships has caught officials’ attention after winning his first bout in Lae yesterday.
He is 19 year-old Tau Bowen from NCD Boxing Association who has withstood his opponent Nickson Patatrea from Baba Association during the first bout of 57 kg at the 2025 National Finance Championships.
With the soviet-boxing technique that he uses, the anticipated national boxer has let off much energies becoming the winner of his category’s first bout day just few minutes into the match.
The National Capital District team has signed up with 10 players including seven males who have won all their matches yesterday and the three females who are yet to fight their opponents.
Bowen said he is looking forward to win his next second bout today, “I believe in myself to still win this fight and make it into the next because I can do it,” he affirmatively uttered.
“With much confidence gain over his last competition, Bowen assured his coaches and team members to finish this competition describing yesterday’s match as good but easy.
“I will still fight throughout this competition and I believe that I can convince the officials and judges to become one of the national players because that’s my next mission,” he stated.
NCD Boxing Association Coach Junior Raka said that this championship draws the line for young Bowen to make it into team PNG for upcoming Commonwealth games in 2026.
“If he makes it into the finals, and win the gold medal, then he has a major shot in representing the country in the upcoming international championships,” he stated.
