Despite being the South American continental champion, the Copa Libertadores winner was placed in Pot 3 ahead of the group stage draw. That meant Group B with opposition as strong as PSG and Atlético de Madrid to contest with. Now, striker Igor Jesus is set for a move to Nottingham Forest of the Premier League. However Jesus has left his mark on this tournament before any transfer, and his goal in the 1-0 victory over PSG means Botafogo is top of Group B. ‘Fogo’ fans have found themselves in a dream; first position. One more point against Atlético would guarantee a top of the group finish. However defeat could be catastrophic as PSG and Atlético could both leapfrog the Rio de Janeiro team on the final day. Fluminense faces Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in the final group match. A draw will confirm safe passage to the next round, and should they equal the result of Dortmund against Ulsan then that would be enough to finish first in Group F.
