Brendan Rodgers plunged into 'dodgy' Celtic situation claims Rangers hero as he rejects manager's own stance

Alan Hutton reckons that Brendan Rodgers is in a "dodgy" spot after his pledge to Celtic should a Premier League giant come calling. The Parkhead boss is crystal clear he’ll be in place next term for a third year since returning to Glasgow’s east end for his second spell - declaring he is "150 per cent, 200 per cent" certain he will see out his Hoops' contract. Rodgers is also planning talks with Dermot Desmond about his future beyond next term as well as looking to make adjustments to his squad. However, with Ange Postecoglou facing major pressure over his Tottenham future, former Rangers and Spurs man Hutton reckons that there could be temptation to return south of the border for the ex-Liverpool and Leicester City boss. Hutton posed on the Scottish Football Social Club: "You know what would be interesting? With the Brendan situation, after going out on a limb and saying 150 per cent, could you imagine a big team coming in for him in the summer? He has put himself in a dodgy situation." Host Darrell Currie chimed in: "I just don't think given what happened the first time, I genuinely believe it doesn't actually matter what might happen in the summer - I think he is going to stay." Hutton clapped back: "So if it was a Tottenham, just as an example?" Former Celtic man Peter Grant said: "I think he will 100 per cent stay, because he said he was going to be here for the three years unless he got sacked (when he returned to Celtic). "I agree that will happen. He may not sign a new contract, that is the difference. This particular year, I think in May, Brendan will be sitting saying 'OK, let's see how we progress here, because my contract is up next season'." Ahead of talks with Celtic supremo Desmond, Michael Stewart reckons the billionaire financier has a clear solution that would see Rodgers remain - but it may require patience. "If he is out of contract and there is nothing available, is he just going to walk away from Celtic? I don't think he would. "I actually think, completely dependent on what else would be available in management, there is a good chance he will stay on at Celtic and maybe sign on a rolling contract and at that point be a bit more open and up front with the club and say 'look, I am going to be staying here, I love it, but on the proviso that if Tottenham or one of these top Premier League clubs come in I would look to go, or might look to go abroad'. "I becomes very difficult to plan the time you would leave. I's a fixed term contract of three years, but who knows what is available next summer?"
