Brilliance of the Sea and 500 more cruise ships visit Spain’s busiests dock

The Brilliance of the Seas cruise is one of the nearly 500 cruise ships that visited Mallorca and the rest of the Balearic Islands between January and August of this year, according to the local port authorities.
The luxurious cruise ship arrived on August 23 in Palma and offered visitors and enthusiasts the opportunity to discover one of the most complete ships in the Royal Caribbean fleet. The ship, renowned for its perfect combination of adventure and comfort, stands out for its unique facilities, such as its 12-meter climbing wall, rotating panoramic bar, and relaxation areas with Jacuzzis under glass roofs, and even a mini-golf course. Its visit to the Mallorcan port is part of its Mediterranean route and allows those interested to discover the many leisure and entertainment options offered by this luxury ship.
As a whole and from January through July, Mallorca and the four other Balearic Islands welcomed 1.4 million cruise ship passengers, a 9.4 per cent increase compared to the first seven months of last year. In July alone, 84 cruise ships arrived in the ports of the Balearic Islands with 354,600 passengers, a 3.8 per cent rise from July 2024. The five ports of general interest in the Balearic Islands (Palma, Alcudia, Ibiza, Mahón, and La Sabina) registered over 4 million passengers between January and July, a 1.4 per cent drop compared to the first seven months of last year.
1.4 million cruise ship passengers
In the first seven months of 2025, nearly 1.4 million cruise passengers arrived in the Balearic Islands, a 7 per cent decrease. Fishing landings in the ports of the Balearic Islands reached 130 tons in July, a 39.3% decrease compared to the same month last year. In the first seven months of the year, 1,154 tons of fish were unloaded in the ports of the Balearic Islands, a 2.1 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
In terms of cargo, the five ports of the Balearic Islands handled 10,581,986 tons between January and July, a 3.8 per cent increase. In July alone, they handled nearly 1.8 million tons, a 5.7 per cent increase compared to July last year. Nationally, Spanish ports of general interest handled 323.8 million tons through July 2025, a 2.3 per cent drop compared to the same period the previous year, according to provisional data. According to Puertos del Estado, the data reflect the context of stagnant global trade due to global geopolitical and economic uncertainty and instability.
Passenger traffic increased by 6.5 per cent through July compared to the same period in 2024, exceeding 22.9 million movements. Cruise passengers totalled just under 7.6 million through July, an increase of 16.5 per cent.
