Couldn't you just quit your job, putz around, and pick up odd jobs if you get bored? (9) Funniest if I had $10 million, my job would never see my ass again. Ever (2) Funniest doglover: Is retirement a legal thing? Couldn't you just quit your job, putz around, and pick up odd jobs if you get bored? It's what my dad's done for the past like... 25 years? AlgaeRancher (4) Funniest Pretty common really I had my son once try to make a case for why its great to have passive income and not need to work. I told him that he had just described being retired. (1) Funniest 23 minutes ago Why on earth would I retire? I spent my life learning to do this work, now I know how and all these script kiddies have not the slightest clue. Why would I have spent my life working if I didn't want to work? Sorry it makes no sense to me, but I know most people don't think that way. I don't know about you, but I like to have a roof over my head and food in my belly, and those take money. Work provides money. /I know people who view winning the lotto as "I'll drive a nicer car to work the next day" //I'd like to think it'd keep going to work until it annoyed me too much ///But I probably wouldn't. Hunter Biden's Laptop (5) Funniest 1 minute ago Oh look. It's the one GenX'er who gets to retire. (0) Funniest less than a minute ago Because you love money and have no soul. Your job is who you are, not what you do. Be like Tom...take your pile and enjoy life. Tom from Myspace (1) Funniest less than a minute ago Bootleg: jrl: Why on earth would I retire? There are people who work to live, and there are people who live to work. Sounds like you are the former, and jrl is the latter. Personally, I like my job and I have amazing coworkers, but even so if I didn't need an income I'd be gone in a hot minute. Too many other great things I could be doing. Monkeyfark Ridiculous (1) Funniest less than a minute ago jrl: Why would I have spent my life working if I didn't want to work? LurkerSupreme (1) Funniest less than a minute ago Notably, they've referred to work as "increasingly unappealing," while also remarking on how nice it would be to focus on hobbies (gold, reading, and all the sort). How is "gold" a hobby? Like collecting, smelting, panning for it, putting tacky bits of it on your walls? Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I don't think you can just casually throw out "gold is one of my hobbies" without some elaboration. (1) Funniest less than a minute ago If you're a multi-millionaire you can still work. You can just do whatever work you want, pretty much. New Rising Sun (1) Funniest less than a minute ago ...eight figures is more than enough to fuel even the most lavish of retirements. I guess I should not be surprised that the ten-millionaire who cannot make himself even just go part-time or take a midlife gap year to try out retirement also cannot imagine a retirement sufficiently lavish to burn through 10MM plus accruing interest. Like sky's the limit, partner, if we're talking lavish. Ocean view condo in Monaco, climb Everest, first class airfare for constant trips all over the world, high end personal chef to make you breakfast in bed every day, take up new hobbies like learning to drive an F1 car or get your pilots license so you can buy and fly a retired fighter jet. Baloo Uriza (2) Funniest less than a minute ago If I had $10 million I'd invest (by shorting or liquidating small companies ran by Republicans whenever practical) and hide in plain sight. Maybe buy the house I'm renting and finance that. I told him that he had just described being retired. Ehh, the problem is you need to keep finding new forms of passive income. Unless you mean covered calls, but you need $30k to start that until it compounds into an income. Snapper Carr (0) Funniest less than a minute ago jrl: Why on earth would I retire? I spent my life learning to do this work, now I know how and all these script kiddies have not the slightest clue. Because working with the script kiddies is endlessly frustrating. Even if my disability hadn't caught up with me and eventually made me unemployable, I was looking for a way out because all those kids who switched majors from business to computers were starting to enter the work force and I hated dealing with them.
