Call the Midwife's Nancy Corrigan's absence explained as star makes surprise return
@Source: mirror.co.uk
Call the Midwife returned to BBC One this weekend and it featured a surprise return when Nancy Corrigan's (played by Megan Cusack) daughter Colette (Francesca Fullilove) attended a dress fitting in Poplar. She joined Violet Buckle (Annabelle Apsion), Shelagh Turner (Laura Main) and her fellow bridesmaids as they prepared for her mother's wedding.
Violet revealed some details about Nancy's big day as she revealed she had changed her mind about her wedding dress. Meanwhile Shelagh joked at how the bridesmaids may no longer fit in their dresses.
While viewers were relieved to see Colette make a comeback, it was not until the preview for next week's episode that they finally saw a glimpse of Nancy. In the short clip, Nancy and Colette were seen embracing their old friends as they returned to Poplar.
At this stage, it is not clear why they are visiting, but it is likely to be due to plans for the upcoming wedding. The BBC confirmed actress Megan had not left the series for good after fans were concerned following her shock departure.
Earlier in season 14, Nancy got engaged to her new love, Roger (Conor O'Donnell), and she left Poplar temporarily to accept a role at Netherditch hospital.
Nancy felt it would be best for both herself and her daughter, and it would mean she was closer to Roger.
Nancy assured her Nonnatus House friends that their wedding would take place in Poplar, which she affectionately calls "home", hinting at her exit only being temporary.
Actress Megan also reassured fans ahead of the latest season airing that Nancy would not be gone forever.
"Just because she's fallen in love, she's not leaving us," she said.
"There's lots of things happening, she's got lots going on, you know, a job offer, an engagement, an overbearing mother-in-law-to-be. So she's got a lot going on."
Viewers will have to wait and see whether it is just a flying visit or whether Nancy will be sticking around for a while.
With wedding plans now in full swing, it is likely she will be popping up more regularly as she makes arrangements for the big day.
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One on Sundays at 8pm
