The former Indian cricketer, Piyush Chawla reckons that Pakistan’s middle-order batter, Salman Ali Agha will be India’s biggest threat as the two sides are set to meet in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 group-stage fixture in Dubai on Sunday. Chawla in an exclusive interview with CNN-News18 talked about Agha’s attacking nature which was on display during Pakistan’s record run-chase against South Africa in the recently-concluded ODI Tri-Series. The batter also put in a valiant performance against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy opener, scoring 42 off 28 despite the unfavourable scenario during their chase in Karachi, “Biggest threat from the Pakistan team, Salman Agha because he’s the kind of player who can change the course of the game on its head on his given day. Because he’s an attacking batsman, and we have seen what he is capable of when Pakistan were chasing 350-odd runs against South Africa, the kind of hundred he got, he’s batting well against New Zealand also. He’s an attacking player who can change the game,” he said. In addition, Chawla also reflected on both the teams and implied that India may have the edge when it comes to their record against Pakistan in ICC tournaments in the 50-over format along with their dominant form in recent games. He backs India to have the edge when it comes to the contest between the rival nations. “On form, if you think, India has got the edge because in ICC tournaments especially in the one-day format, India has done well against Pakistan. Although in Champions Trophy Pakistan has got the slight edge but looking at the current form, the way Indian team is playing and the way Pakistan played New Zealand, so India’s got a better chance,” he concluded. India will be in the driver’s seat when they take on Pakistan considering that they already have a win under their belt. For the Rizwan-led side, the pressure will be on his men after a crushing defeat by 60 runs to the Kiwis which means that the coming fixture will decide their fate. Both teams are set to meet at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium and the contest will surely be a thrilling one that entertains the fans.
