Cats hope Lions slip-up just a ‘blip’
Geelong coach Chris Scott hopes an “uncharacteristic” poor home loss to Brisbane will prove just a “blip” as the Cats attempt to charge into the back end of the season.
The Cats were stunned 14.8 (92) to 6.15 (51) on Friday night, suffering their first defeat to the Lions at GMHBA Stadium since 2003 in a sour end to skipper Patrick Dangerfield’s 350th game.
“We played a really good team that was sharp tonight, and we were the opposite,” Scott said.
“If that’s a pattern throughout your games, then you’ve got a problem, and you may not be a very good team -- but I don’t think that’s the case with us. It hasn’t been a pattern.
“Sometimes you can have a bit of an off-night and get away with it but you can’t against the quality of that opposition.
“I didn’t think it was a complete disaster ... It was just some uncharacteristic things that, if it’s a pattern compounded, means you’re a bad team.

Good afternoon and welcome
It’s as close to the Winter solstice as possible (it was at 12.42pm AEDT for all those weather nerds out there), but the AFL mid-season footy is bound to get pretty hot on Saturday with key captivating matches - North Melbourne vs Carlton, Port Adelaide vs Sydney Swans and, tonight, first-placed Collingwood versus St Kilda.
