Celebration held to mark ‘150 Glorious Years of Mayo College, Ajmer’

The Mayo College Alumni Association of Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh (MAAPHC) organised a grand event to celebrate ‘150 Glorious Years of Mayo College, Ajmer’—a prestigious legacy institution—at the Chandigarh Golf Range, Sector 6.
The celebration saw the presence of guests’ of honour Saurav Sinha, Principal of Mayo College; Neeti Bhalla Saini, Principal of Mayo College Girls’ School and Harmeet Singh, President of the Mayo College Alumni Association, Delhi.
The event witnessed participation of around 200 alumni members, who traveled from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and neighboring states to attend the gala event. A few former teachers who had served Mayo College for decades also graced the occasion. The Principal of YPS Patiala Navin Kumar Dixit was among the special attendees.
Expressing his gratitude, Karan Gilhotra, Vice President of MAAPHC, said, “The celebration is a moment of immense pride and joy as we honor the rich legacy of 150 glorious years of Mayo College. The institution has been a foundation of our lives, instilling in us values, friendships, and the spirit to make a meaningful impact on society and contribute to the nation’s growth. More than just a celebration, this unforgettable evening is a testament to the strength of our alumni community and the bonds and values we continue to uphold.”
Diya Sodhi, Joint Secretary, MAAPHC said, “We are extremely honoured to have a distinguished gathering of our alumni, faculty and dignitaries on this momentous occasion. This beautiful evening reflects the unwavering pride we carry as Mayoites and the bond we share with our school mates and with our institution, which continues to inspire younger generations.”
Prominent alumni present included Admiral Sunil Lanba (Retd.), Former Chief of Naval Staff; Justice Kamaljit Singh Garewal (Retired); Dr. Jagpreet Singh, Headmaster of The Doon School, Dehradun; and Ajay Pal Singh Mahal (IRS), Former Chief Commissioner.
Over the years, Mayo College has contributed significantly to the nation, producing a Chief of the Naval staff, General officers in the Army , Hon’ble High Court Judges, Governors, senior bureaucrats, politicians, Bollywood actors, and top industrialists.
Notable alumni include V.P. Singh Badnore, Former Governor of Punjab; Harsh Vardhan Shringla , former Foreign Secretary; politician Deepender Hooda; Charu Sharma, the renowned commentator; and Lt Gen Ajai Singh, Former Governor of Assam among many more stalwarts.
The celebration was enlivened by mesmerizing soulful music, warm interactions, and the felicitation of all distinguished dignitaries. Camaraderie could be witnessed as pass outs of both Mayo College Boys and Mayo College Girls met old school mates and friends. All in all, it was an emotional rendezvous full of mirth, laughter and bonhomie as ex-students of Mayo reminisced about the school days.
