Charity push sees Galbraith team March around the World for Samaritans

Workers at a top property firm have clocked up the miles for a good cause. Staff at Galbraith have just completed a 'March around the World' fundraiser in support of Samaritans - a challenge which saw all of the company's employees attempt to cover the distance of the equator (40,075km) across the month of March. Employees in Ayr were among those hitting everything from exercise bikes running the streets. Galbraith's Callum Kerr, who organised the fundraiser as a member of the corporate, social and responsibility committee, said: "The primary aim was to encourage a healthy lifestyle and promote positive wellbeing practices all whilst raising vital support for Samaritans, the mental health crisis support charity. "Staff members were tracking their activity through a shared app that linked to everyone's smart watches and mobile phones. "It was able to automatically add distances from walks, runs, cycles, rowing and more - we have even had a few alpine skiers contribute whilst being on holiday." The team conquered their target of 24,901 miles travelled with the help of one last push on Friday. Staff in the Ayr office were among those hopping on exercise bikes inside their branch as part of the team effort to get over the line. Callum added: "Friday saw all offices have planned a day of fundraising to raise awareness and sprint towards the finish line. "All of our 13 offices sourced spin bikes and also planned group activities. The key is that the challenge was accessible to all, no matter whether you were running a marathon or just getting steps in around the office. Everyone was taking part." The bid was also able to call upon two high profile helpers as professional rugby players Ali Price and Boan Venter joined the Galbraith squad. It came through the company's partnership with Edinburgh Rugby and the Scotland and British Lions duo, who both formerly starred for Ayr, were happy to participate to raise awareness of the fundraiser. The latest effort follows Galbraith's similar fundraiser last year when they undertook a similar challenge 'travelling' from Murrayfield to Rome's Stadio Olympico in a working day, raising £14,000 for My Name5 Doddie.
