China’s Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi says PNG friendship is “deep rooted”
PAPUA New Guinea’s Foreign Affairs Minister Justin Tkatchenko has met with China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Their meeting was on May 29, during the Third China-Pacific Island Countries Foreign Ministers Meeting in Xiamen.
The meeting highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between China and PNG, emphasizing their historical rapport built on mutual trust and cooperation. Wang Yi acknowledged the significant milestone of PNG’s 50th independence anniversary and noted that the upcoming year will also mark 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
He called for both sides to reflect on their successful partnership and to collaboratively outline a strategic vision for future relations.
This meeting signifies an ongoing commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and fostering mutual benefits in the context of international diplomacy.
The discussions aim to solidify their alliance and project a cooperative path forward over the next five decades.
Minister Tkatchenko emphasized the importance of PNG’s relations with China, stating that the government supports China’s one-China policy, and is committed to enhancing communication, advancing Belt and Road Initiative projects, and promoting sustainable development.
