Coconut Creek’s $1.50 Heist: Armed Robber’s Unbelievable Dairy Queen Hold-Up
@Source: publishedreporter.com
It was an afternoon straight out of a bizarre crime story. A woman stormed into a Dairy Queen in Coconut Creek, pulled out a gun, and demanded cash. But when it was all said and done, she walked away with just $1.50.
A Bold Crime with a Small Payoff
Around 2:45 p.m. on February 20, 44-year-old Allison Fetting entered the Dairy Queen at 5405 Lyons Road. Employees say she pulled out a gun and demanded money. With no option but to comply, workers handed over the only cash in the register at that moment—just a dollar and fifty cents.
Despite the terrifying situation, no one was harmed. But the whole ordeal left employees shaken and customers baffled.
Caught Within a Day
Coconut Creek police wasted no time launching an investigation, and within 24 hours, authorities tracked Fetting down. She was arrested in Palm Beach County and is now facing a laundry list of charges, including armed robbery and possession of a controlled substance.
It turns out this wasn’t her only crime. Police say Fetting may be connected to other similar robberies in the area.
A Growing Concern in Coconut Creek
This isn’t the first time a fast-food spot in Coconut Creek has been targeted. Just last year, a Chick-fil-A employee was robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot of a location off North State Road 7. The suspect in that case got away, despite a massive police search involving K9 units and a helicopter.
Local businesses are becoming increasingly worried, with some owners considering extra security measures like cameras, security guards, and better lighting. Police are also urging employees to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
A Crime That Makes No Sense
While armed robberies are nothing new, this one has people scratching their heads. A crime this serious, all for less than the price of a soft-serve cone? Some believe drug use or desperation may have played a role.
As Fetting awaits trial, the case serves as a reminder that even the strangest crimes can have serious consequences. Meanwhile, businesses and law enforcement are working to ensure something like this doesn’t happen again.
