The Communist Party of India has urged the district administration to stop removal of flag posts of political parties after the recent direction of the High Court.
In a representation to District Collector A. Kulothungan, party secretary A. M. Saleem said the Madras High Court had constituted a larger bench to look into the validity of the order of removal of flag posts. The court has stayed the removal of flag posts of political parties till August 16, he said.
“Moreover, erecting of flag posts and displaying of party flags by political parties does not constitute defacement or objectionable advertisement as defined by the Puducherry Open Places (Prevention of Disfigurement) Act, 2000. The party want the administration to clampdown on those putting up banners and cut-outs which create obstacles to free movement of vehicles and endanger lives,” he said
