Cricket player collapses and dies on pitch while playing in 41-degree heat

A club cricket player has died after collapsing on the pitch during a game in south-east Adelaide.
The man, aged in his 40s, was playing at Concordia College Oval in Highgate yesterday in sweltering heat topping 41.7 degrees when he suffered a medical episode around 4pm ACDT.
Paramedics were called to the game and attempts were made to revive the player with CPR, SA Ambulance said.

The player died at the scene.
In a statement, the Old Concordians club said it was saddened by the loss of a valued member and their thoughts are with his family.
"We are deeply saddened by the passing of a valued member of the Old Concordians' Cricket Club, who tragically suffered a medical episode while playing on the Concordia College oval today," the statement said.
"Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly did not survive.

"We are grateful that our College Pastor was present to offer care and support. Thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends and teammates during this difficult time."
Adelaide was blanketed with severe heat yesterday, with temperatures exceeding 40 degrees as the cricket match was played.
The game reportedly kicked off at 12.30pm and the temperature hit nearly 42 degrees by 3.30pm yesterday.
