A scoring error has forced the replay of the Domino's Men's Super League play-off quarter-final between UCC Demons and Energywise Ireland Neptune.
Basketball Ireland's National League Committee has confirmed the error that was made by an official during the final quarter of the side's clash at Mardyke Arena last Sunday.
A two-point basket in the first quarter by Energywise Ireland Neptune's Tamyrik Fields was wrongly allocated to UCC Demons' Scott Hannigan.
The footage was reviewed by the officials at half-time, and subsequently Neptune were awarded the two points for Fields’ basket.
However, game officials failed to deduct the additional points originally allocated to UCC Demons so the game proceeded with the incorrect score.
"The NLC acknowledge that human error has occurred," read a Basketball Ireland statement.
"In the interest of the fairness and integrity of the sport and the competition in question, they have decided that the game is to be replayed this weekend at UCC Demons home venue, with a date and time to be confirmed.
"The NLC have applied FIBA Rules and Regulations in reaching this conclusion.
"The decision by the NLC to replay the fixture cannot be appealed, as per C.5 of these regulations, which states: 'The decision of the competent body is also considered a ‘field of play rule’ decision and is not subject to further review or appeal'.
The winners of this weekend’s replay will face Garvey’s Tralee Warriors in the Domino’s Super League playoff semi-finals on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday next week, with a date and time to be finalised after this weekend's game.
