@Source: walesonline.co.uk
A man accused of raping three women in Carmarthen over a period of 20 years is due to give evidence in court today. Daniel Gravell, aged 43, is charged with three counts of rape relating to incidents in 2002, 2005, and 2022. He denies all charges against him and is standing trial at Swansea Crown Court. On day six of the trial on Tuesday, April 30 the court heard details of interviews given by Gravell when he was questioned by police about all three alleged rapes. The first accusation dates back to January 2002, when a complainant said she was raped by Gravell at a house in Carmarthen. In his police interview, given more than 20 years later, the defendant said: “At no point did she (the complainant) say she didn’t want to have sex. "I don’t remember everything but I remember we slept together. She was not intoxicated to the point that she was ‘out of it’. At no point did she say 'what are you doing' or anything like that. She was drinking but she was coherent. She was ‘with it’. We both had sex. It was consensual.” Don’t miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here. The second complainant in the case alleges that Gravell raped her outside Carmarthen Athletic Club in June 2005. Gravell told police he remembered meeting the complainant and that they walked together holding hands. He said they had consensual sex near the rugby club. The third and most recent allegation dates back to February 2022, when a woman claims she was raped by Gravell in her home after a night out in Carmarthen. When interviewed the following day the defendant told police: “Everything was totally consensual, which is why I’m absolutely shocked why I’m here. This is a complete waste of time. I have been pulled in here for nothing.” You can read much more from day six of the trial here. Gravell, of Porth Y Plas, Johnstown, Carmarthen, is due to give evidence on Wednesday.
