“Aston Martin is now back in the top class of endurance racing globally,” said De Angelis, who will share the ride with Britain’s Ross Gun. “This is definitely one of most sought after seats in racing right now. It’s kind of the best of the best and I’m very fortunate to be in racing with THOR and Aston Martin the last six years to prove I’m good enough.”
De Angelis starting his racing career at the age of nine and won his first title at the age of 13 in 2014 at the Canadian National Karting Championship.
De Angelis continued to move up the ladder and in 2020 joined the Heart of Racing Team in the Aston Martin GT Vantage car. He captured the WeatherTech Championship GTD class in 2020.
“Time has flown that I’ve been with this brand and team for six years,” De Angelis said. “It’s been a really good run with them. They took a gamble with me at 17 to sign. There were probably a lot better drivers with a better resume than I did and owe a lot to them.”
A graduate from the University of Windsor in mechanical engineering, De Angelis also got a close-up look as his new ride was being put together.
“Working with the engineers hand-in-hand, not just as a driver but some understanding why they’re doing things and seeing it in action, has been really cool and eye opening,” De Angelis said. “It’s been a great experience to be a part of.”
