Fans of BBC's Death In Paradise were heartbroken in the latest episode as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson announced his position is being "phased out". Speculation around Selwyn's departure had been brewing since the popular series recommenced, and on Friday night (February 14), it was confirmed that his role is to be made redundant. Early in the show, there were indicators of Selwyn's increased stress levels, which left viewers puzzled by his icy behaviour toward colleagues. As the episode unfolded, it became clear why the Commissioner was behaving this way when he shared news about his career with the force. Nevertheless, the revelation did not sit well with fans, who took to X to express their dismay. One viewer commented: "My heart is breaking for Selwyn. He's devastated." Another loyal viewer stated: "Don't try it #DeathInParadise. There's no way we're going to let Selwyn go." A third chimed: "I’m getting so worried for Selwyn. I’m sure they’ll end up saving his job at the last minute but seeing him like this is upsetting. I need someone to go to the HQ in Jamaica and do something." While a fourth said: "Don't write Selwyn out show wouldn't be the samme without Commissioner Patterson." Although there has been no official word from the producers of Death in Paradise regarding the future of Selwyn at Saint Marie, betting experts have been weighing in on who they believe could replace him. Actor Danny John-Jules, known for his portrayal of Officer Dwayne Myers and last seen in the 2024 Christmas special, is being considered for a comeback and could step into Selwyn's shoes. Don Warrington has been a part of the Death In Paradise cast since the show first kicked off in 2011. Death in Paradise airs Fridays at 9pm on BBC One
