Delhi: New Travel Cards, Modern Bus Shelters And Revamped Routes To Change How You Commute
@Source: news18.com
The Delhi government has announced an ambitious plan to upgrade the city’s bus services with the introduction of smart travel cards. As per TOI, transport Minister Pankaj Singh shared that these cards will allow commuters to use DTC buses, the Delhi Metro, and the upcoming Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) with a single tap. More Buses and Better Routes Chief Minister Rekha Gupta revealed that the fleet will soon expand with both small DEVI buses and larger vehicles. She stressed the need to improve routes, many of which still follow old patterns that no longer match the city’s growth. To tackle this, the government has partnered with IIT Delhi to create a comprehensive new route plan. A pilot project will first begin in Yamuna Vihar to test the changes before rolling them out across Delhi. Free Travel for Women and Transgender Commuters In a bid to make public transport more inclusive, special pink cards will soon be issued. These cards will let women and transgender passengers travel for free on DTC buses. Gupta said discussions with banks are ongoing to ensure the smooth distribution of these cards to eligible residents. Modern Bus Shelters on the Way Another major focus is redesigning the city’s bus queue shelters (BQS). All shelters will get a fresh look and modern facilities, including real-time bus arrival displays, LED lighting, digital boards, solar panels, and weather-resistant structures. These improvements aim to make waiting for buses safer and more comfortable.
