Delhi’s BPL Women Voters Below 60 To Get Rs 2,500 Per Month As Mahila Samridhi Yojana Shapes Up

Women voters in Delhi, who are living below poverty line (BPL) and are less than 60 years of age, will get Rs 2,500 per month under the Mahila Samridhi Yojana, News18 has learnt, as the Delhi government moves closer to finalising the eligibility criteria.
Last week, News18 had reported that the Delhi government had formed a committee to finalise the eligibility criteria for the scheme. Chief minister Rekha Gupta is the head of the committee, while cabinet ministers Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Ashish Sood, and Kapil Mishra are the members.
The government is considering paying the monthly financial assistance to only those women who are in the BPL category and are voters of Delhi. However, the official announcement is yet to be made.
“The women voters in Delhi who are below the age of 60 years and are below poverty line will get the benefit of the scheme. Very soon, the other details will be issued,” a senior BJP leader told News18 seeking anonymity.
The family income of the women, who want to avail the benefit of the scheme, has to be less than Rs 3 lakh annually. Also, the women should not be receiving any other financial assistance from the government. The Delhi government is giving old age pension to women above the age of 60 years and also widow pension to eligible women. “These women will not be eligible for the new scheme.”
Apart from the condition of being a voter in Delhi, the women need to have an Aadhaar-linked bank account, the leader added.
A dedicated portal and mobile app will also be developed for the scheme before the registration process starts.
Among the decisions the government has to take is the date of launch of the scheme and from when the money will be credited into the accounts of eligible women. Also, there is no clarity if the eligibility criteria involve any cut-off date for women voter registration in Delhi.
During the Delhi assembly elections, the scheme was promised by the top BJP leadership to be taken up in the first cabinet meeting but could not be finalised. Gupta then announced that women in Delhi will start getting Rs 2,500 per month from March 8, International Women’s Day. However, on the day, the scheme could only get the approval of the Delhi cabinet that allocated Rs 5,100 crore for it.
