Desperate Dodgers Linked To Trade For Cardinals' All-Star Brendan Donovan
@Source: newsweek.com
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a lot of talent, but injuries continue to crush the team's big league roster. The pitching staff has been decimated with all different kinds of injuries, and the lineup has faltered at times, too.The Dodgers will likely be one of the more aggressive teams at the trade deadline, but it remains a bit unclear what the team will decide to do in the coming days.USA Today's Bob Nightengale recently laid out the Dodgers' plan for the trade deadline and connected them to a trade for St. Louis Cardinals utilityman Brendan Donovan."The biggest surprise at the trade deadline would be if the Dodgers don't come up with another closer. They have checked in with virtually every team for bullpen help," Nightengale wrote. "They also are looking to upgrade their outfield with Michael Conforto's season-long struggles and have expressed interest in Minnesota Twins outfielder Harrison Bader and Cardinals utility man Brendan Donovan."The Dodgers pulled off a trade with the Cardinals last year to bring in Tommy Edman, and it worked out well for them. This year, they could target an even better utilityman in Donovan.Donovan is able to play anywhere on the field on defense, though he's remained a second baseman and an outfielder for the Cardinals. Acquiring him would be an expensive move for the Dodgers to make, but it's one that seems destined to work out.Beyond Donovan, the Dodgers need to add a few pitchers, though they seem focused on adding to the bullpen. Los Angeles could use another closer to pair with its star arms at the back end of games.More MLB: Padres' Trade Deadline Takes Wild Turn After Red Sox's Jarren Duran Decision
