Did you spot this KATU-TV host on John Oliver’s HBO show this week?

While the majority of this week’s episode of HBO’s “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” consisted of the host making pointed commentary and criticisms of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and his actions as the secretary of Health and Human Services, a lighter moment did pop up at the end of the show. As happens often on “Last Week Tonight,” the show went for laughs with a montage of clips of local TV news anchors and personalities commenting on some current event. This time, the joke had to do with a sort-of holiday called National Siblings Day. The “And Now” segment was introduced this way: “Local anchors learn about their colleagues’ families on National Siblings Day.” Then came a collection of clips of anchors in various markets around the country making awkward small talk about siblings, including a cringe-worthy exchanges about a much-younger sibling (“Was he planned?” “Not really”) and an anchor recalling being “stabbed” by a sibling who incompetently tried to change his cloth diaper. Sharp-eyed Oregon viewers may have spotted KATU-TV’s Helen Raptis in a brief clip, sharing a family photo. It went by quickly, and Raptis, the host of KATU’s weekday show, “AM Northwest,” definitely didn’t come off as cringe-worthy. For comparison’s sake, Raptis was just the latest local face to turn up in a comedy bit on “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.” Last year, for example, in an “And Now” montage called “People on TV want you to know this is no laughing matter,” a clip of the 2020 video featuring an Oregon Health Authority staffer dressed up in a clown costume for Halloween, drew laughs. Later that year, another “And Now” segment, called “Newscasters come to terms with life after the Olympics,” included a clip from “KGW News at Sunrise,” featuring anchors Drew Carney, Chynna Greene, and weather anchor Rod Hill. The segment about Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is available on the “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” YouTube page, but it stops before the “And Now” montage that ends the show.
