Dinesh Karthik Jumps On Pitch Debate Bandwagon: 'Need To Talk To Chinnaswamy Curator'

Former India cricketer and Royal Challengers Bengaluru batting coach Dinesh Karthik has said that while the team asked for good pitches in both their home games, they were provided with ones which were tough to bat on, and the team will need to talk to the Chinnaswamy Stadium curator about the same. Bengaluru’s star-studded batting lineup was rendered ineffective on a sluggish pitch in their two home matches while getting restricted to 169/8 and 163/7 against the Gujarat Titans and the Delhi Capitals. Karthik said that the pitch has deprived Bengaluru of the home advantage at a venue where games have been high-scoring. “In the first two games, we have asked for good pitches. But it’s turned out in this way where it’s been challenging to bat on. So, we try to do the best with whatever we get,” Karthik said while speaking at the post-match press conference. “But we will have a chat with him (the curator). We trust him to do his job. So, this isn’t a pitch that’s helping the batters too much. It’s a challenging pitch. So that has been the case so far in both the games that we have played,” Karthik added. The former India cricketer said that big hits and fours are a crucial part of T20s and it concerns all players. On the day, Devdutt Padikkal scored an 8-ball 1, skipper Rajat Patidar a 23-ball 25, Liam Livingstone a 6-ball 4, Jitesh Sharma a 11-ball 3 and Krunal Pandya a run-a-ball 18. “I think the way T20 cricket is, the more runs there are, the better it is for the broadcaster, the better it is for the fans. They all like to see boundaries. And we will try and do the best of what we can,” Karthik said. The former India cricketer said that while Bengaluru try not to follow any particular template in a game, tracks such as the one at the Chinnaswamy made it hard for batters to even rotate the strike. In the death, the 17th over bowled by Kuldeep Yadav yielded just four runs, increasing RCB’s woes while batting. “I think with every pitch, we’ll try and understand what’s the best way to play. I don’t think we have one set template that is how we want to go out there and play. It’s important to adapt and understand what the pitch is,” Karthik said.
