Dinesh Karthik Praises Jasprit Bumrah, Says 'He's As Valuable As Kohinoor Diamond'

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has reserved big praise for star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah by saying that he is as valuable as a Kohinoor diamond. Bumrah, who tops the ICC Test Bowler’s ranking, is leading India’s bowling attack in the ongoing first Test against England in Leeds and picked up five wickets for 83 runs in the first innings.
Bumrah’s super show with the ball helped him break multiple bowling records and fold England for 465 in reply to India’s 471 in the first innings.
Impressed by Bumrah’s performance at Headingley, Karthik, who has now donned the hat of an expert and commentator, while speaking on Sky Sports Cricket on Sunday (June 22), said that the Ahmedabad-based cricketer is something very special.
“He is as valuable as a Kohinoor diamond, and I hope people realise how important he is to the Indian bowling attack across formats because you give him any ball. In fact, I just made an Instagram reel on how across phases, old ball, new ball, white ball, any ball you give him—pink ball, green ball, I don’t know what ball you can give him—he will make it work. He’s got immense skill set, but more importantly, he’s got a brain that ticks, that knows what a batsman is trying to do and how I am going to pick up his wicket, and he’s got that wired quite nicely. He’s got it all. For any bowler in the history of the game who has picked up 200 wickets, he’s number one with the average, which tells you that he is something very special,” Karthik said.
Bumrah, who has 210 wickets to his name in 46 Tests played so far, has dismissed 150 batters in SENA countries. He is the first and only Asian bowler to achieve the feat. In addition to that, the five-wicket haul in the first innings of the Leeds Test helped him become the first Indian bowler to take three five-wicket hauls in Tests played in England, equal Kapil Dev’s record of 12 five-wicket hauls in Tests played away from home, and R Ashwin’s record of 11 five-wicket hauls in the World Test Championship (WTC).
