Professor Shannah Robin, a martial artist, educator, and community advocate originally from the Dominican Republic, has been honored with international recognition at the renowned G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) Martial Arts Awards scheduled for this weekend. The ceremony was held from August 14 to 16, 2025, at the Tanglewood Resort located in Pottsboro, Texas, according to a press release.
This distinguished event convenes top martial artists from over 25 U.S. states as well as countries including Canada, England, Germany, Ireland, Guyana, South Africa, Australia, and Israel. It celebrates individuals who have committed their lives to martial arts mastery, mentorship, and making a global impact.
Currently residing in Canada, Professor Robin holds an 8th Degree Black Belt and is the founder of Universal Martial Arts Karate/Jujitsu. With more than 36 years of experience across various disciplines—such as Shotokan Karate, judo, boxing, jujitsu, tai chi, taekwondo, and Shaolin Kung Fu—he has emerged as a prominent figure representing resilience and leadership within the Dominican community and beyond.
Recently, Professor Robin achieved the rank of Grand Master Robin after successfully testing for his 9th Degree Black Belt in a ceremony attended by nine Grand Masters from different parts of the world. The testing included demonstrations of forms, self-defense techniques, sparring, and breaking. Out of a group of 12 candidates vying for high-ranking titles, he distinguished himself as one of the top performers.
Attendees, including grand masters and peers, reportedly praised him as “the most innovative, creative, well-rounded and highly skilled Martial Artist in the room. And that his high rank was well deserved.”
Notably, Grand Master Robin is recognized as the youngest and first Dominican to attain such a high level in martial arts history. He is also the youngest in the Caribbean and ranks among the top five Caribbean Grand Masters to reach this level.
The release stated that his dedication is reflected in over 30,000 hours of training since the age of eight. His notable achievements include:
– Completing 2,175 hours of traditional Tai Chi and Shaolin Boxing training in China – Securing seven karate championships and earning recognition in amateur boxing – Leading a 30-member sports delegation from Dominica that won 16 gold, 6 silver, and 6 bronze medals in international competitions – Receiving honors for over 15 years as a high school teacher, motivational speaker, and author of the book *The Warrior’s Journey* – Supporting Dominican police cadets and youth in developing self-defense, discipline, and leadership skills – Being awarded the Medal of Honour by the President of Dominica in 2014 for outstanding service to youth and the community
Throughout his career, Grand Master Robin has reportedly taught approximately 10,000 students worldwide and currently operates a dojo in Canada, and expressed that he is focusing on legacy rather than ego. According to Grand Master Lawrence Arthur, founder of the event, “This event honours those who have shaped the path of martial arts and continue to inspire generations around the world.”
Event activities included high-rank black belt testing (from 5th to 9th Degree), instructor training seminars, a formal awards banquet in black-tie attire, and media coverage from outlets such as World Martial Arts News and Martial Arts Extraordinaire Magazine. Attendees also received custom G.O.A.T. rings, award plaques, and commemorative polo shirts to honor the recipients.
