Hearts of Oak Board Member, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has commended the Black Stars' technical team for their bold decision to start Benjamin Asare in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
Asare, a former Great Olympics goalkeeper, earned his maiden call-up to the senior national team following his outstanding performances in the ongoing 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
Despite the presence of established goalkeepers Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Jojo Wollacott, Asare was entrusted with the starting role against Chad, where Ghana secured a resounding 5-0 victory.
Asare repeated his impressive display in the crucial clash against Madagascar at the Al Hoceima Grand Stadium in Morocco, keeping another clean sheet as the Black Stars triumphed 3-0. His back-to-back shutouts have earned him widespread acclaim, with Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe praising the coaching staff for giving Asare a chance.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe highlighted Asare's performances as a testament to the quality available in the local league.
"He's made a case for the local players, but we can never be home and dry as far as this competition is concerned until local players are featured prominently."
With his impressive displays against Chad and Madagascar, Asare has staked a claim to become Ghana's first-choice goalkeeper moving forward.
The Black Stars, currently leading Group I with 15 points, will now shift their focus to their upcoming September qualifiers, where they face Chad away before hosting Mali in Matchday 7 and 8 of the campaign.
