@Source: people.com
Draymond Green is raising some athletic children. However, he doesn't think there's a future basketball star in the group yet. During a Thursday, June 5, appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the 35-year-old power forward for the Golden State Warriors reflected on his blended family, which he shares with wife Hazel Renee. They share daughters Cash Green, 4, and Hunni Green, 19 months. They also co-parent Draymond's 8-year-old son Draymond Jamal "D.J." Green Jr., from a previous relationship with Jelissa Hardy, and Renee's 10-year-old daughte,r Olive Jay, whom she shares with Jacob Pullen. While on the late-night show, host Jimmy Kimmel asked Draymond if his children were displaying any athletic abilities yet. The basketball star revealed that his two older children are involved in sports. "My 10-year-old, she's in competitive cheer. She's in dance, piano, She's more artistic," he said abotut Olive. Draymond continued, referencing D.J. and saying, "My 8-year-old plays soccer. He only wants to play soccer." He continued, noting, "I saw him play basketball ... His friend had a party last weekend at a fieldhouse, and they played. He was destroying those kids. I couldn't believe it. But he won't play. So I tried to have the conversation on the way home, like, 'Hey D.J., you know, if you really want to take basketball serious, I can help you be really good. I've kind of got the cheat code.' And he's like, 'Yeah, I play soccer.' " The proud dad noted that he "tabled the conversation" for now, jokingly adding that he would "turn into LaVar Ball and push off in the future." Ball's two sons Lonzo and LaMelo play play in the NBA, and their dad has been an outspoken cheerleader of them pursuing the sport professionally. While Draymond joked that he could push the conversation at later date, he stressed that there's no rush, saying, "We've got time." While on the late-night show, he also revealed one way that he isn't following in his mom's footsteps. He said that growing up, she was always trash talking from the stands of his games. "My mom would never come on the court. She just wouldn't do that," he said. "But my mom, since I was a child, has been the mom who like, from the stand, she yells, 'You Suck.'" He continued, saying, "But the thing about my mom is she talks about all the players on my team. Oh, she kills them. But she absolutely annihilates me. So it's one of those things like... I've always heard the stories from it where in the beginning a parent will almost like want to get snappy at her." "And as they continue to watch, they realize how bad she talks about me, [and] they just like... 'Oh, that's no problem what she's saying about my kid.'" Nowadays, Draymond can't hear his mom since he's playing in massive stadiums. However, he said that he "could always hear it" when he was playing in smaller gyms. "I used to sometimes turn around and be like, 'Mom, stop.' She wouldn't talk to me for days after I did that," he said, adding, "She'd be mad at me as if I did something wrong." Will Draymond follow in his mom's footsteps? "Absolutely not," he said when asked if he'd ever tell one of his kids that they sucked at anything. While D.J. might not want to play basketball at the moment, he has previously expressed interest in working in a related career. “He tells me he’s going to be a coach. Like, ‘Daddy, imma be a coach in the NBA,’ ” Draymond told the NBA in June 2022. No matter what, Draymond enjoys the time he gets to spend with D.J. in the sports world, telling the NBA, "It’s the most special thing in the world. Growing up as a young African-American man with nothing, you go, and you gain all this success, and you make all of this money." He added, "My fear is that he doesn’t understand how to work, that he doesn’t understand the things that’s going to face him."
