School’s out for a fortnight for the Easter holidays. There are lots of Easter-themed family fun events around the country, and here’s some of the best of them. At Epic Museum in Dublin, a Sherlock Holmes interactive adventure is fantasy-themed family fun. EPIC - the national emigration museum - transforms into the scene of a literary mystery. Tour Highlights include meeting Sherlock Holmes in a live theatrical performance, with puzzle and immersive storytelling. Enter magical book portals, where you can track clues, solve riddles, and return the escapees to their rightful stories before fiction and reality become one. Explore six magical crime scenes across EPIC’s galleries, with characters from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Ulysses, and Gulliver’s Travels. Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the EPIC Story-Break runs from April 17- 22, with five tours a day. Adults are €23.00, children €15.00. This Easter, Dublin Zoo is bursting with egg-citing Easter activities and a dino-mite experience that’s millions of years in the making — Zoorassic Trail. The Easter Bunny will be hopping around, while a DJ plays on the Great Lawn. Expect themed keeper talks at Family Farm, shining the spotlight on Dublin Zoo’s resident rabbits. Dino-mite Days Out is a prehistoric party over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend with the eagerly anticipated return of Ranger Dan and all the lovable stars of Roar Roar Dinosaur — an interactive, educational show where dinosaurs play. There’s a baby dinosaur petting zoo, fossil clay making, face painting and roaming dinos. Dinosaur eggs are set to hatch right on the Great Lawn. Zoorassic Trail has 40 realistic animatronic dinosaurs, from a roaring, 40-foot-tall T-Rex to a gentle 65-foot Brachiosaurus Kids can climb inside dino eggs and explore nesting sites. At Bunratty Castle and folk park in Clare, Easter weekend itself is packed with events. Highlights include the Easter Bonnet competition, where budding young designers under 12 can showcase their creativity using recycled and upcycled materials. Judges Lady Longbottom and Madame Bloomers will announce the winning hats. The Wobbly Circus show features slapstick comedy, clowning and fire-juggling, unicycle tricks, and stunts. The Easter Bunny and other rabbity characters will be wandering around the famous estate and folk park. Bunratty Express magical ride through past a fairy village, the folk park paddocks between 10.30 - 1.30 pm and 2.00 - 4.30 pm daily. Learn about the tradition of ironworking, how tools are made, and step back in time fpr living history of chieftains and warlords. Tickets from €58.45 for a family of four; €22 for adults and €15.80 for children. From Friday, April 18 to Sunday, April 20 from 10.30 to 5pm. Join Ireland’s largest Easter egg hunt at Emerald Park in Country Meath. From April 16 to April 20, there are 10,000 chocolate Easter eggs up for grabs. Kids get a Hop & Hunt map before embarking on an Easter-inspired hunt through the Emerald Park Zoo and Junior Zone, with lots of egg-hunting escapades Online early birds from €43 for adults, €39 for kids. Hop aboard the Easter Express at Oakfield Park in Raphoe, Donegal and set off on a magical journey through the enchanting woodlands. A Bunny Bingo card provides clues along the way. There are lots of playful characters—some will help, while others might send you in the wrong direction. A delicious chocolate treat from the Easter Bunny awaits. Other exciting activities include the “Carrot Toss Challenge”, bunny hop races, Easter egg painting and designing bunny ears. April 19 to 21. Tickets are €65.44 for a train compartment for four people. Avondale wooded estate in Co Wicklow has Easter fun galore at the one-of-a kind Beyond the Trees. Its treetop walk leads to a 38 metre viewing tower with panoramic views. Check out the daily Treetop Walk and Scavenger Hunt, plus loads of fun activities, including Pet’s Corner. Meet some adorable friends, try archery, hop aboard the Easter Train Ride and win some great prizes including a family trip to Prague. Fall down a rabbit hole at the Mad Hatters Tea Party in Malahide Castle in County Dublin on April 18th and 19th.
