Emi Martinez to Man United transfer latest amid Aston Villa PSR stance and Onana impact
@Source: manchestereveningnews.co.uk
Emiliano Martinez has emerged as a candidate to become Manchester United's new goalkeeper with uncertainty around Andre Onana's future at the club. Martinez, 32, is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer after seeming to say goodbye to Villa Park at the end of last season. Despite not being able to offer Champions League football, United appear to be one of the frontrunners to land the World Cup winner. Reports in Argentina have continued to claim the former Arsenal star wants a move to Old Trafford . However, a transfer is only likely to occur if Andre Onana can be sold, which may prove difficult to do. With that in mind, MEN Sport takes a look at the latest on Martinez's potential move to United.. It's claimed that Villa would consider sanctioning a transfer for Martinez due to PSR. Despite being 32, it's reported that Villa will seek £30m-£40m for their goalkeeper. Martinez is contracted at Villa Park until 2029. Plenty has been reported on the 32-year-old's preference to join United and Ben Jacobs recently went on record to state that Martinez would be open to a move to Old Trafford . The journalist has claimed, though, that Martinez's move depends on whether or not United can sell Onana. It's also claimed that Villa have not yet received an approach but discussions with the player's entourage have been positive. The Manchester Evening News understands Andre Onana is not expected to leave United and Tom Heaton has agreed a contract extension, meaning that Altay Bayindir would likely be departing if the World Cup winner was to arrive. Onana has been linked with a move to AS Monaco this week with the Ligue 1 side keen to improve their options inbetween the sticks. After appearing to suggest he is set to leave Villa with a teary farewell at Villa Park, Martinez's future was put to Unai Emery. The Villa boss, at the time, refused to speculate on the goalkeeper. Asked whether the United game on the final day of the season, which Martinez got sent off in, would be his last for the club, Emery replied: "No way!" The report followed up with: "Definitely not, he's staying at the club?" before Emery added: "See you later."
