Asian queens from the global RuPaul's Drag Race family have united for a common goal — and no, it's not just to avenge the early elimination of the instantly iconic slaysian diva Joella.
Entertainment Weekly has an emotional, exclusive trailer previewing Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale, the first-ever all-Asian all-stars edition in Drag Race franchise her-story. The teaser reintroduces 12 queens from eight different international versions of the show, from the United States (season 10's Yuhua Hamasaki returns) all the way to five cast members from the Filipino edition.
Together, as introduced by host Paolo Ballesteros, the queens will vie for the title "in a showdown like no other," because "this isn't just drag, this is slaysian royalty" set to be judged by a revolving door of guests including recent AAPI Drag Race winners like Sasha Colby and Nymphia Wind, to international icons like Global All Stars winner Alyssa Edwards, All Stars 8 champ Jimbo, UK vs. the World star Marina Summers, and Drag Race Thailand host Pangina Heals.
"Did somebody order a drag queen?" Yuhua says upon entering the competition, while other footage includes queens proudly standing atop the Werk Room tables, and, of course, crying.
Additionally, RuPaul's Drag Race UK season 1 star Sum Ting Wong tearfully opens up to her sisters, telling them that "having the opportunity just to learn my Asian self and the beauty of it with all of you" means a great deal, before the cast proudly proclaims, "We're not failures, we're not losers, we're winners!"
Later, at judging, Nymphia tells one contestant, "You look so hot," while Sasha Colby tells another, "This is what it means to level up!" Alyssa also proclaims, "Now this is the Slaysian Royale I was hoping to see" on the runway.
In addition to the aforementioned Sum and Yuhua, the queens competing on the season ahead include Arizona Brandy (Drag Race Philippines, season 2), Bernie (Drag Race Philippines, season 2), Brigiding (Drag Race Philippines, season 1), Ivory Glaze (Drag Race Down Under, season 3), Khianna (Drag Race Philippines, season 3), Kitty Space (Drag Race France, season 2), Madame Yoko (Drag Race Belgique, season 2), Siam Phusri (Drag Race Thailand, season 3), Suki Doll (Canada's Drag Race, season 2), and Viñas Deluxe (Drag Race Philippines, season 1).
Also joining the new series are two fan-favorite aftershows, Fashion Photo Ruview hosted by Drag Race season 2 runner-up Raven and season 3 winner Raja, and Binge Queens, cohosted by pairs Melinda Verga with Joella, and Ongina with DeeDee Marie Holiday.
Of the new Slaysian Royale venture, production company World of Wonder founders Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato said in a press statement: "This new version of Drag Race shines a spotlight on Asian drag as never before, celebrating its culture, its history, and creativity in a unique battle royale."
