England football legend Stuart Pearce was surpised on This Morning by the cabin crew member who 'saved his life' during his recent airplane health crisis. The former Manchester City manager , who played for his country on 78 occasions, suffered a medical emergency on Sunday, March 2, while on a flight from Las Vegas. Stuart was returning home to London after attending the rugby clash between Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves, the first ever Super league match in America With the medical staff on the Virgin aircraft, which made an emergency landing in Newfoundland, helping him with his emergency, Stuart has gone on to make a full recovery. Appearing on Monday’s (March 31) edition of ITV talk-show This Morning alongside his wife Liz, Stuart said he initially thought he was suffering from indigestion after his chest ‘felt tight’ on the way to the airport. “Nothing at all (previous medical conditions). History with my family, nothing at all… I don’t drink, I don’t smoke” he said. With Liz saying ‘it’s very unusual’ for her husband to say ‘he’s in pain’, Stuart said the cabin crew put his mind ‘at ease’ and he knew he was in ‘safe hands’. He recalled: “They looked after us, moved us forward up the airplane. Hooked me up to a ECG machine. My resting heart rate was 155bpm… I’ve never experienced anything like that… “They hooked up with the doctors, sent all the readings down and hooked me with oxygen.” Looking back on Nottingham Forrest having a minute's applause for him in their recent clash against Man City, Stuart said: "They’ve done a minute’s applause and we’re thinking ‘one of the Forrest players must of died, hang on it’s me”. I’m on the board. It was really humbling." Presenter Cat Deeley then welcomed Zoe Anderson, the manager who sat down with Stuart on the plane, who he and Liz both gave a hug to upon seeing. “We are trained to deal with these situations… I sat down with Stuart and did an assessment. Sometimes with chest pain, it might be something simple. "After talking to Stuart, he said his pain was at an eight out of ten… We had Stuart hooked up to an ECG monitor, we were able to send them (the results) straight down to the colleague I was speaking to… We did a few different readings and they said they were not normal," Zoe said. Thanking Zoe and her colleagues for their help, Stuart said: "I can’t speak highly enough of the crew. I always felt getting ill on an airplane was the worst place to get ill, but they gave me a new found gratefulness." With Zoe saying it was a ‘team effort’ to make sure Stuart was okay, the football legend said ‘thank you very much’ for all their help in a heartwarming moment. "I was quite calm, but you have passengers who are nervous. That level of composure and the training… you fully assured me," he added. After teasing Ben Shephard that the experience was 'like watching West Ham', Stuart gave an insight into what doctors told him happened and how he's feeling now. "They think a virus just affecting the heart. I feel fine this week and hopefully next week, just keeping on top of it," he said.
