Enzo Fernandez makes feelings clear during guard of honour before Liverpool game

Enzo Fernandez was falsely accused by some Liverpool fans on social media of 'not clapping' during the Premier League champions' guard of honour prior to their game at Chelsea on Sunday. The Reds were afforded the honour at Stamford Bridge after wrapping up the title last weekend with a thumping win over Tottenham . Blues boss, Enzo Maresca, confirmed in the week that his side would perform a guard of honour for their old rivals before their match, which will have a major bearing on Chelsea's Champions League hopes. Chelsea went ahead with their plans - much to the disappointment of some home fans - but one angle of the guard of honour made it appear as though Fernandez was not applauding. It seems as though the Argentina international was clapping Liverpool onto the pitch at the start of the guard of honour before stopping briefly. And it quickly became a talking point on social media. One fan wrote: "Correct me if I'm wrong but Enzo didn't clap," while another posted: "Almost certain that Enzo didn't clap." Another social media user shared an image of Fernandez standing with his hands by his side and quipped: "Enzo Fernandez was already plotting his revenge against Liverpool during the guard of honour." While other angles of the guard of honour show that Fernandez was applauding at points, the midfield maestro wasted little time in putting Liverpool to the sword once the whistle had blown. It took him just three minutes to finish off a slick Chelsea move to stun the champions, who somewhat stumbled out of the blocks at Stamford Bridge. Sky Sports commentator Gary Neville waxed lyrical about the move that led to Fernandez's goal before commending the midfielder's composure. He said: "That is quite simply a beautiful goal. "There is a piece of football in the middle of the field that is really special. Enzo Fernandez is the benefactor. Fair play to Fernandez, the composure - he could have lashed at it first time and he didn't." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
