Despite adverse weather conditions, the European Cricket League has pressed ahead at the Cártama Oval, with over half of the group stage matches already completed.
The ECL2025 in the Malaga town is hosting a championship competition among 35 top European clubs divided into seven groups. Yet again, Cártama has become the epicentre of European cricket.
Sometimes referred to as the ‘Champions League of European Cricket,’ the tournament has seen Darmstadt CC advance after defeating 2023 champions Dreux by four wickets in the Group A final. Contested in the fast-paced T10 format, the 90-minute clashes take place daily from 11.30am through to 9pm in Cártama, now becoming a well-respected top-tier cricket venue.
Admission is free, and attendees can enjoy an array of bars, restaurants, and entertainment, fostering a festive, family-orientated environment.
On Saturday, March 15, the Group G playoffs take centre stage with Roma CC and Malo playing at 12.30pm and Malo Beveren at 5pm, as well as Mediterranean Vikings going up against Independents CC. The winners from those matches will meet on Sunday, March 16. On Monday, March 17, the Championship week bats off, whittling down which team will go to the finals to become European champion 2025.
The Cártama Oval on Diseminado Poligono 26, 47, Cártama, is open daily during the championships from 10am. Fingers crossed for some sunny weather and some cricketing splendour.
