On June 23, the Euronews Academy international training program was officially launched in Baku as part of a joint initiative between the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan and Euronews, one of Europe’s leading news networks. At the opening ceremony, Fernando Soares, Executive Director of Euronews in Baku, had a speech and stated that the program was designed to equip young journalists with internationally recognized skills and knowledge. He emphasized the program’s role in fostering ethical journalism and preparing professionals capable of navigating the evolving media landscape. Natig Mammadli, Deputy Executive Director of the Media Development Agency, highlighted the importance of such international collaborations in advancing professionalism in the media sector. He noted that the program would help local journalists adopt modern journalism standards and enhance their digital competencies. Vugar Zifaroglu, Dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Baku State University and Deputy Chairman of the Press Council, praised the initiative for facilitating the integration of young journalists into global media practices. He noted that direct interaction with international experts allows students to bridge theory and practice effectively. Held at a specially designated auditorium of the Media Development Agency at Baku State University, the first day of the five-day program focused on “Digital News Gathering and Data-Driven Journalism.” Participants were trained by Tuba Altunkaya, a seasoned Euronews multimedia journalist with over 14 years of experience, who introduced core principles of digital news reporting, data analysis, and fact-based journalism. The training program features interactive lectures, hands-on assignments, group discussions, and analysis of texts and videos. It will continue through June 27, offering participants a comprehensive learning experience in modern journalism practices.
