COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Kyle Snyder, a former Ohio State NCAA champion and Team USA wrestler, has issued his first public statement since being arrested May 9 for soliciting prostitution in Columbus, Ohio. Snyder, 29, was one of 16 people arrested in a prostitution sting by the Columbus Division of Police, according to authorities. He called and texted an online ad for escort services posted by CDP, according to Sgt. Joe Albert. Snyder agreed to meet at a hotel near Columbus’ North Side, where he paid an undercover officer cash to engage in a sex act. He was arrested for engaging in prostitution, Albert said, and was released from the scene following his arrest. On Wednesday, Snyder indirectly addressed the incident in a post to X. “I want to thank everyone who has reached out with kindness and support,” Snyder wrote. “My focus is on my relationship with the Lord Jesus and my family. This is not conclusion of my journey. 1 Peter 4:17-18.” Police body camera footage of Snyder’s arrest was released Tuesday. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 19. Snyder wrestled at Ohio State from 2015-18, where he helped lead the Buckeyes win the 2015 NCAA team championship while winning three consecutive individual NCAA heavyweight championships from 2016-18. The four-time All-American finished his collegiate career with a 75-5 record and was inducted into the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2024. Snyder also competed on the international stage and became the youngest wrestler to win an Olympic gold medal in Team USA history at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He also won a silver medal in Tokyo in 2021 and finished fourth in Paris in 2024. Overall, Snyder owns 42 international wrestling competition medals, including 30 gold, six silver and six bronze. Earlier this month, Snyder signed with the Real American Freestyle Wrestling league, which was launched this month by former WWE stars Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff. RAFW will hold its first event August 30 in Cleveland, according to its website.
