From Idu Jude Abuja
The Federal Government has announced that Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State, will reopen for flight operations tomorrow, April 28, following the completion of emergency repairs of the runway.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Obiageli Orah.
It would be recalled that FAAN had on April 18, 2025, announced that due to a sudden and significant rupture in the asphalt surface at a critical section of the Akanu Ibiam Airport runway, the runway would be shut down for emergency repairs.
The work was scheduled to begin on April 22 and concluded before reopening on May 6, 2025.
However, FAAN announced that rehabilitation work has been completed, and the runway cleared for landing and takeoff by its engineers.
FAAN appreciated all airport users and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation during the period the airport was closed.
The Authority apologised for the inconveniences, but assured the public that all actions were taken in the interest of safety.
